AFCN: Dream Team Top Group B With Early Win

The Nigerian “Dream Team” rose to the top of the table at the U-23 African cup of nations, after defeating Mali 3-2 in a Group B match in M’Bour on Sunday.

It was a game of two halves, the “Dream Team” dominated the first half, ending it with a 3-0 lead at the end of the half.

Mohammed turned goalscorer 18 minutes later, sweeping into the net with his right foot after Sincere Seth ran down the right flank and cut back into the box, with Ajayi missing the first touch.

Ajayi completed his brace on the dot of half –time, latching on brilliantly to the ball as goalkeeper Djigui Diarra parried a hot shot from Etebo Oghenekaro.

It was a different story in the second half as the Malians came out a different team, Ndifreke Effiong tripped a Malian forward in the box after 9 minutes into the half, Adama Niane converted the spot kick beautifully.

Mali got a second as the Dream Team allowed them all the play. Souleymane Sissoko scored from a quick break from the left and the Malians now had belief they could turn it around.

In other group B match Egypt and Algeria played out a 1-1 draw, making Nigeria head the pool. The “Dream Team” face Egypt on Wednesday while Mali lock horns with Algeria.
