#HOUSEYARNS – NFF SAY THEY HAVE THE CASH TO COMPLETE ZAMBIA WORLD CUP QUALIFIER FIXTURE
The cash-strapped Nigerian Football Federation has dismissed reports that it is too broke to send a team to Zambia for a forthcoming World Cup qualifier.
The teams are due to clash on October 9 as they push to qualify for the 2018 finals in Russia. Reports quoted Nigeria’s Guardian newspaper as saying the federation, which is constantly embroiled in financial difficulty, is trying to raise $270,000 in sponsorship order to charter a plane.
But in a swift rebuttal, the NFF through its Twitter account, described the reports as “blatant falsehood” and said all plans to get the Super Eagles to Zambia for the important away fixture had been concluded.
During the Olympics in Brazil, where Nigeria won a men’s football bronze, a spat broke out over exactly who should be the beneficiary of a gift donated by a previously unknown Japanese benefactor.
