The League Management Company (LMC) has lifted the one-year ban placed on Akure Township Stadium following crowd troubles last season.

According to a letter addressed to the President of Sunshine Stars, signed by the Chief Operating Officer, (COO) of the league organizers, Salihu Abubakar, the decision to lift the ban was as a result of Sunshine Stars management’s efforts to meet some criteria set aside by the league organisers.

Acknowledging the receipt of the letter, Sunshine Stars Media Officer, Wahab Bankole, said, “I am pleased to inform you that Sunshine Stars have been cleared to play their NPFL home games at the Akure Township Stadium.”

“This is cheering for us as it will boost our confidence level going into the new season. “We have learnt our lessons and will do all it takes to prevent a repeat of the occurrence that resulted to the initial LMC action.”

The Akure Stadium was banned for one year by the LMC following crowd troubles in a week 36 match of the Nigerian Premier League against Lobi Stars of Makurdi in November, 2015.

With this development, Sunshine Stars will kick start their season in Akure with a match against Akwa United.
