Man City Prepare Swoop For Lionel Messi And Pep Guardiola
Hart came up limping after making a vital stop on Juventus’ Alvaro Morata near the end of City’s match against the Bianconeri, and per Mark Ogden of the Daily Telegraph, he complained of hamstring pain as he was replaced by Willy Caballero.
The England No. 1 has been a consistent presence in goal for City for years now, having established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
While fans don’t often mention his name when discussing the very best, his peers hold him in high regard. Juventus stopper Gianluigi Buffon, one of the greatest of all time, thinks he may even be the best in the world, via the Daily Mirror’s David Anderson.
He’s been relatively injury free during his career, so manager Manuel Pellegrini hasn’t been forced to come up with alternative plans all that often. Caballero has proved an adequate replacement whenever he’s been called upon.
The 34-year-old is a solid stopper in his own right, but he doesn’t have the reflexes and leadership qualities of Hart. The latter is an excellent communicator, guiding his defenders throughout the match, and City’s defence always looks a bit disorganised whenever Hart is sidelined.
Caballero should be able to hold down the fort for the time being, but he’s undoubtedly a significant downgrade on Hart. Pellegrini must be hoping the English star returns to the pitch in a hurry.
